Call of Duty 3

By now, I think most people have finally come to terms with the fact that Nintendo’s upcoming Wii console will be graphically underpowered compared to its competitors, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3. However, that doesn’t mean the console will be dead on arrival, as Nintendo is looking towards its new motion-sensitive controller to help sell the system. Already the Wii Remote is garnering big support from developers and publishers, with some of the industry’s biggest franchises set to use it in some form or another. Among those, Activision is trying its hand at the FPS genre with the third installment of their tried-and-true WWII shooter franchise Call Of Duty for the Wii’s launch. With D-Day, as it were, rapidly approaching, many are wondering how this “new gen” version will fair against the next-gen, and thanks to an IGN story, we now have a good idea!

While the game will not be as graphically on par with the other versions, it is being displayed at 480p and in 16:9 widescreen. Like the GameCube, the Wii will only support Dolby Pro Logic II, but CoD3 is also fully compatible with that. Strangely enough, though the game will use the rumble pack, it will not make use of the controller’s built-in speaker, as Activision will apparently not have enough time to incorporate it. This seems to make sense, considering earlier reports that many developers had yet to receive full details regarding the controller and online plans until just weeks ago. Likewise, as we have reported before, online play is out, and so is any form of multiplayer, and WiiConnect24 will not be utilized.

With the Wii set to come out November 19th, it is unlikely that Activision will have time to implement any of the features outlined above if they do intend to have Call of Duty 3 there for launch. However, for those of you know unsure of your purchase, Activision has promised a great single player experience, with motion-sensitive movements for aiming, reloading, throwing grenades, melee combat, controlling vehicles and oh-so-much more. On the other hand, for those of you who only pick up these games for the multiplayer aspect (as the whole WWII shooter angle is kind of played out now), the Xbox 360 and PS3 (assuming Sony can get its own online problems worked out) versions are your only choice. Naturally, we’ll keep our eyes open, and if we see anything to the contrary, we’ll be sure to post it, so check back at VGGEN often!

So has anyone heard if the wii would have a multiplayer war game?
