According to Edge magazine, the upcoming Wii installment of Nintendo's hit Animal Crossing franchise will be an "MMO/social networking" game. The magazine correctly points out that such a move would be an incredibly logical extension of the franchise, as previous installments in the series already relied on virtual social networking, ran in real-time, allowed players to visit other players' towns, and involved exploiting the local economy.
While Nintendo has confirmed that it is working on a Wii installment of the franchise (and that it will support some sort of online play), it has not confirmed officially that it will be an MMO. When and if they do however, we'll let you know.
