The Virtual Console's 301st game isn't quite as epic as its 300th, but Clay Fighter should make for a solid addition to the lineup today.  While 800 Wii Points is probably too much to pay for a pretty basic fighter, it could find a niche amongst people who want something a little more off-beat to play than the likes of Street Fighter II.

But it's really WiiWare that's bringing classic gaming back with today's update, as two new Nintendo Wii remakes are set to release.  Bubble Bobble Plus! from Taito is a new take on the classic puzzler, adding in online leaderboards and 100 rounds each in Standard and Arrange modes.  The price point of 600 Wii Points seems like a bargain on the surface, but once you realize there's already two pieces of DLC availalbe (Expert Mode 1 & 2) it's clear that Taito is utilizing the old Razor-Razorblade model (sell the blade cheap, make money off the blades).  We're fine with that in this case, given that even the base game itself seems like a good value at 600 Wii Points.

Today's other new WiiWare title is Adventure Island The Beginning from Hudson.  For 800 Wii Points players can play a new take on the classic platformer, searching for Golden Melons and unlocking new items to use.  There are also mini-games that support two players.

Learn how to use new skills while exploring Adventure Island from coast to coast. Search for Golden Melons hidden throughout the stages and mini-games. When obtaining Golden Melons, you’ll be able to purchase various items to help you on your adventure. These items can increase your attack power or enable you to reach places you couldn’t get to before. Fulfill certain requirements while playing in any of the modes to achieve a “Master Higgins Feat” and you’ll be awarded a Master Higgins costume.

Clay Fighter™ (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen – Comic Mischief and Mild Cartoon Violence, 800 Wii Points): In this zany 2-D fighter, it’s just another day for a humble traveling circus troupe when a meteor crash-lands in their camp. The otherworldly orb, made entirely out of interstellar clay, contaminates all the circus employees, turning them into bizarrely superpowered versions of themselves.
